Full Moon in Scorpio

A magenta full moon with a Scorpion nestled inside.

Happy Full Moon in Scorpio, which will go Void of Course tonight.

The transformative energies of Scorpio don’t work well with the moon. You see, the moon is Fallen in Scorpio, meaning it’s its worst placement. In Scorpio, the moon’s worst traits are brought to light: paranoia, caginess, and emotional darkness. As it’s Scorpio, a need for vengeance and black-and-white thinking can also be magnified with this transit; with Sun in Taurus opposing, it can also reflect values: ours vs. others. What’s mine vs. what’s yours. Taurus and Scorpio rule second and eighth house matters, after all, and a full moon is an astrological opposition, a hard relationship between two planets that needs mediating.

I also see this full moon as a magnifying glass, like a badly-aspected or debilitated Jupiter (which by the way, is in its fall in Capricorn all of this year). Like any placements this year, this final supermoon asked us what we need to transform in our lives. What changes are we resistant to make and why? What changes do we want (or need) to make? These changes have a flavor of value and worth, which is fitting since this pandemic is restricting our movements and we’re facing economic uncertainty.

When Scorpio Moon is void, it will give us a break. For those of you who are magick users, a Void Moon means magick will not manifest at this time, so it’s a bad night for spellcasting (and unfortunately, if you didn’t charge your crystals or perform your rituals, you may want to do an alternative today before the sun goes down, or have a mini-charge before 10:00 EST). This is a good night to unwind and catch our breath. Soak in the tub, have a glass of wine, or if you’re feeling productive, put on some music, and organize something.

Like the Pink Moon, which houses this opposition falls in will affect where you’ll see it. For me, it’s falling in my 6th/12th house, highlighting my health and daily routine, and putting a magnifying glass on the subconscious feelings I have about it, or that are fueling the choices I make about my health. For other house placements, here’s a small breakdown:

1st/7th House – How does the value you bring affect your “self” (body, personality, appearance), and how does that work with your relationships?

2nd/8th House – The most straightforward for this moon, it’s doubly highlighting your worth and value.

3rd/9th House – Since your movement is restricted at this time, this full moon is calling on you to make it work. How can you pursue opportunities to connect with people and continue learning while you’re in the house? For this lesson, look for planets in your 11th house or Aquarius (rules the Internet) that may spark this change.

4th/10th House – Public vs. private life is being highlighted here. How has self-isolation taught you to rethink your home life or your career? If you’re still going to work, it may highlight your role in the world and how it’s transforming in the wake of COVID? Do you feel appreciated at work, or conversely, when you come home?

5th/11th House – How has your time been spent creatively, or digitally (specifically, social media)? These are the houses of creativity and leisure, and of friendships, peers, and social circles, including social media. This full moon is calling you to assess your true creative worth, and the value your social circle brings to you. If you have children, this could also be asking you how your relationship with them is changing at this time.

6th/12th House – What’s your daily routine like? What needs to be strengthened and what should be cut? Are you being healthy and mindful? This is where mine is, and every time the moon enters my 12th, I steel myself for nagging subconscious thoughts and anxieties. If the moon is transiting your 12th, as always, pay attention to your dreams for the next day or two.

When the moon is in Sag, it will pass opposite Venus, going retrograde next week. It will also pass over The Nodes, on the SN in Sag (which may be on or near Galactic Center when it does), so tonight, when the moon is Void, relax, because interesting transits are coming soon!
